Look for the EID number
If a 32-digit number called EID (Embedded Identity Document) appears, your iPhone is eSIM compatible ✓
Your phone must be unlocked
It's not enough for the device to be eSIM compatible. It also needs to be unlocked from the original carrier. Some phones sold with a plan (subsidized) are locked to the carrier's network and only work with that company's SIMs.
- Phones bought outright, imported, or from the Apple Store usually come unlocked.
- Phones with a subsidized plan (carrier financing) may be locked.
- If in doubt, call your carrier and ask for a free unlock.
